CON EDISON RECEIVES TOP HONOR AS PATRON OF THE ARTS
NEW YORK - Con Edison has been named one of the “10 Best Companies Supporting the Arts in America,” by the Business Committee for the Arts (BCA). BCA is a division of Americans for the Arts, a leading organization for advancing the arts in the country.
“Con Edison has a long tradition of social responsibility and community support,” said Frances A. Resheske, senior vice president, Con Edison Public Affairs, who accepted the award on behalf of the company during a ceremony at the Central Park Boathouse. “We support nearly 200 arts organizations, large and small, throughout our service area, including arts, dance, and theatre programs,” she added.
Each year, the BCA acknowledges 10 companies for their exceptional commitment to the arts in the United States. These companies are heralded for their exemplary support for the arts through grants, local partnerships, volunteer programs, matching gifts, sponsorships and board membership. Con Edison is the only New York City company being honored.
“These businesses lead by example and set a standard of arts support for other companies to follow,” said Joseph C. Dilg, chairman, BCA executive board and managing partner Vinson & Elkins LLP. “They have demonstrated a steadfast commitment to the arts through financial and in-kind support, innovative partnerships and community involvement.”
Arts education and diversity are at the heart of Con Edison’s commitment to the arts. Over the past 40 years, the company has donated more than $100 million to arts and cultural organizations. Con Edison supports a range of organizations such as the Arts and Business Council of New York, the Chocolate Factory, the Brooklyn Academy of Music, Orchestra of St. Luke’s, Roundabout Theater and the Studio Museum of Harlem, and many more.
