NEW YORK —Catherine Schirmer of Danbury, Ct., a human resources specialist, received Con Edison’s highest honor, the “Living Our Values” award at a dinner in New York City.

Con Edison gives the recognition to employees who exemplify the company’s values of service, teamwork, excellence and concern for the quality of life in their community.

Schirmer joined Con Edison in 2001 and is a senior specialist in the company’s Human Resources Department.

“Catherine is a talented and dedicated employee who always performs above and beyond the scope of her assigned responsibilities. Her contribution of time, energy, and commitment to important and worthy charities constantly inspires all of her colleagues,” said Ray Saracino, director of Con Edison’s Human Resources Department.

Catherine also volunteers after work and on weekends for the Christian Foundation for Children and Aging (CFCA) and the Danbury Animal Welfare Shelter (DAWS).

In 2007, Catherine joined CFCA, an organization that helps children and the elderly in developing countries throughout the world. Catherine sponsors two elderly people in Central America, providing food, medicine and clothing.

Her charitable work also involves volunteering on a weekly basis at DAWS, a non-profit, volunteer-run organization dedicated to improving the lives of animals by promoting the humane treatment of animals.

Catherine and her husband, Joe, reside in Danbury, along with their dog, Thor, which they adopted from DAWS in 2009.

First presented in 1992, Con Edison created the “Living our Values” award so that something intangible, such as an employee’s values and work ethic, could be transformed into something visible and concrete.
