April Is Dig Safely Month Call 811 Before Digging

NEW YORK – Con Edison is reminding homeowners, contractors, and excavators that April is “Dig Safely” Month and to call 811 before digging.

In a typical neighborhood, a web of utility lines delivers energy silently under lawns, sidewalks, and driveways. When gardening or making home improvements, one wrong move could cause you or your neighbors to be cut off from electricity, gas, steam, heat, telephones, water, and other vital services.

Customers are encouraged to call the toll-free one-call center before starting any excavation or digging project. The easy-to-remember 811 call initiates a quick, cost-free service. Local 811 call-center personnel will notify participating affected utility companies that will dispatch crews to mark the location of their underground facilities.
