Morning Update

NEW YORK – Con Edison crews logged another night on the job restoring power to customers impacted by last Thursday’s snowstorm that walloped Westchester County. Con Edison -- with the assistance of utilities from several other states -- has restored electricity to about 49,800 customers.  Approximately 50,200 customers in Westchester lost electrical service due to storm and tree damage.

Repairs will continue today and tonight to restore the remaining 400 customers. Many of the remaining outages involve downed power lines serving only one customer.  The company’s goal is to restore service to all customers by late tonight.

Over 300 utility repair crews, including more than 180 crews from utilities as far away as Ohio, are working on the restoration efforts. Communities with the most remaining outages include New Castle, Yorktown and Cortlandt.

Con Edison has added additional customer service representatives to its call centers to answer customers’ questions. Con Edison urges any customers who are without power, but who have not reported a loss of service, to make sure they call the company at 1-800-75CONED (1-800-752-6633).  Any customers without service should not assume the company is aware of their outage.

Customers also can report power interruptions or service problems, as well as view service restoration information online at, and on their cell phones and PDAs.  When reporting an outage, customers should have their Con Edison account number available, if possible, and report whether their neighbors also have lost power.

Safety is Con Edison’s top priority for customers and employees.  Treat all downed wires down as if they are live and dangerous. Be careful of power lines that may be hidden under snow, tree branches or other debris

Con Edison is in contact with local and municipal officials, as well as the appropriate Office of Emergency Services to keep them informed of all restoration efforts.
