POWER RESTORATION IN WESTCHESTER CONTINUES
NEW YORK -- More than 6,000 customers in southern Westchester County have had their electrical power restored from the violent storm that swept the county overnight. Approximately 15,000 customers still remain without electricity as of 10 a.m. today. Most of the affected customers should be restored later today, with the remainder restored tomorrow (Thursday).
Approximately 300 Con Edison employees and contractors are working in Yonkers, Mount Vernon, Bronxville, Pelham, New Rochelle and Eastchester, among the hardest hit areas, to restore power to residents and businesses. The company is in constant communication with the Westchester County Department of Emergency Services.
Customers can report power interruptions or service problems online at www.conEd.com, or by calling Con Edison’s toll-free customer service number 1-800-75-CON ED (1-800-752-6633). They can also get estimated restoration times online. When reporting an outage, customers should have their Con Edison account number available, if possible, and report whether their neighbors also have lost power.
The company offers the following safety tips for its customers:
During the power restoration process, primary distribution feeders will be restored first, with the highest priority given to lines that supply the most customers out of service. Next, the crews will restore secondary facilities, such as transformers and secondary cables, again with highest priority given to lines supplying the most customers out of service. Individual services and lines serving single homes will be restored as crews become available.
