CON EDISON DIGS INTO RECYCLING
Union Square Set For Drop-Off Of E-Clutter
NEW YORK – With Earth Day on the horizon, Con Edison is helping customers get a head start on spring cleaning and tossing clutter.
Con Edison is joining the Lower East Side Ecology Center (LESEC) for a “Spring Cleaning” recycling event in Union Square Park-North Plaza located on Broadway & East 17th Street in Manhattan on Sunday, April 5, 2009 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“Con Edison is a big supporter of community-based environmental efforts. The company also works to ensure that it recycles used equipment, field materials and office electronics,” said Randolph S. Price, vice president for Environment, Health and Safety at Con Edison. “Supporting this effort will reduce waste and offer customers a place to responsibly recycle out-of-date, used electronics in an environmentally safe and responsible manner."
This “Spring Cleaning” recycling event encourages city residents to turn in their unwanted electronics, such as working and non-working computers, monitors, keyboards, mice, televisions, VCRs, copiers and cell phones.
E-waste contains hazardous materials that, if not disposed of properly, can harm the environment. Recycling e-waste is a proactive approach on an important environmental issue.
Con Edison’s partnership with the LESEC is one part of its comprehensive environmental initiatives through EnergyNY, the company's recently announced plan to meet the future energy needs of its customers through infrastructure upgrades and energy efficiency programs.
