STATEN ISLAND SITE OFFERS SPECIAL WEEKEND DROP-OFF FOR E-CLUTTER

Con Edison Digs Into Recycling Event With NYC Department of Sanitation and Lower East Side Ecology Center

NEW YORK – With spring cleaning time here, New Yorkers seeking to freshen up their homes and get a head start on the hectic summer months have a new ally for disposing of electronic clutter, or e-waste, in an environmentally responsible fashion.

Con Edison is partnering with the NYC Department of Sanitation and the Lower East Side Ecology Center (LESEC) to sponsor a “Spring Cleaning” recycling event at Staten Island’s Fresh Kills Composting Site on Saturday, April 12th and Sunday, April 13th between 8am to 2pm. The site is at 450 West Service Rd. near Exit 7 off Route 440.

“Supporting this effort is a logical extension of Con Edison’s EnergyNY program, which helps customers find ways to make energy efficient decisions at home,” said Randolph S. Price, vice president for Environment, Health and Safety at Con Edison. “The E-Waste Recycling Program offers Islanders a place to unload out-of date, used electronics in an environmentally safe and responsible manner."

This “Spring Cleaning” recycling event encourages city residents to turn in unwanted e-waste, or donate gently-used clothing and linens to local charitable organizations. Computers, monitors, keyboards, mice, televisions, VCRs, copiers and cell phones are common electronic waste or e-waste.

E-waste contains hazardous materials that, if not disposed of properly, can harm the environment. Recycling e-waste is a proactive approach on an important environmental issue.

Con Edison’s partnership with the Department of Sanitation and the LESEC is one part of its comprehensive environmental initiatives through EnergyNY, the company's recently announced plan to meet the future energy needs of its customers through infrastructure upgrades and energy efficiency programs. EnergyNY can be viewed at www.conEd.com/energyny.
