TWO LANES OF TRAFFIC WILL REOPEN AHEAD OF SCHEDULE AT SITE OF LEXINGTON AVENUE STEAM PIPE RUPTURE
NEW YORK – Con Edison and the New York City Office of Emergency Management said today that they expect to open two lanes of traffic on Lexington Avenue on Saturday, August 11th – two days earlier than expected. Repair crews from Con Edison, Verizon and the City have been working together around the clock to coordinate operations and complete this phase of reconstruction on the western edge of the crater earlier than anticipated.
The City and Con Edison are implementing a plan that opens the two western lanes of Lexington Avenue to traffic, while reconstruction work proceeds on the remainder of the area in a closed-off section. The western pedestrian crossing on Lexington Avenue and 41st Street will also be opened on Saturday. The New York City Police Department and Department of Transportation will work to mitigate traffic issues in the area during the remaining reconstruction period.
Updates on business and pedestrian restrictions, as well as roadway closures, will continue to be provided at www.nyc.gov/oem.
