CON EDISON NAMED TO DIVERSITYINC MAGAZINE'S TOP 50 COMPANIES LIST
Company Scores High on National List
NEW YORK - Consolidated Edison Company of New York, Inc. (Con Edison)
[NYSE:ED] was recently named by DiversityInc magazine as one
of the countrys top 50 companies for promoting and encouraging
diversity in its workforce. The company ranked second on Diversitys
overall list, and was named second among competing companies for supplier
diversity. Con Edison also placed third on the list of the top companies
for Latinos.
Additionally this year, Con Edison was listed in fifth place respectively
as a Top 10 company for African-Americans, and as a Top 10 company for
diverse recruitment and retention. In 2004, Con Edison was also named
to the DiversityInc overall list.
"Con Edison is committed to its 13,200 employees, who serve nine
million New Yorkers in one of the most diverse communities in the world.
We appreciate DiversityInc's recognition of the company's success
in developing a workforce that reflects the neighborhoods we serve in
New York City and Westchester County," says Kevin Burke, Con Edison's
chairman and chief executive officer.
New this year was the requirement that companies on the list demonstrate
consistent strength in the four areas the survey measures. Also, more
weight was given to CEO commitment, the most crucial of the four areas
measured. The others areas are human capital, corporate communications
and supplier diversity.
Con Edisons commitment to diversity starts with its CEO
(Kevin Burke) and extends to all aspects of its business, said
Luke Visconti, partner and co-founder of DiversityInc. "As
a top 50 company, Con Edison demonstrated strong unbiased recruitment
and retention as well as excellence in communications and supplier diversity.
Details about the listings, the methodology and the strengths of the
winning companies will appear in the June issue of DiversityInc
magazine, whose headquarters are in Newark, N.J.
