CON EDISON CREWS TO ASSIST WITH RITA CLEANUP

NEW YORK - Con Edison, which previously sent crews to Alabama and New Orleans to help with power restoration following Hurricane Katrina, will be sending 10 crews to Beaumont, Texas tomorrow morning (7 a.m. September 27) to help restore power in the wake of Hurricane Rita.

Con Edison crews will stage at the Thomas Edison service area on the New Jersey Turnpike between exits 11 and 12 starting at 7 a.m. tomorrow, and depart from there for the 1,600-mile trip.

Approximately 32 employees - specialists in overhead electrical systems - will be working in Beaumont for two to three weeks.

Con Edison has a rich history of assisting other utilities after severe weather incidents. Over the years, crews have assisted other utilities around the United States, as well as those in the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico.
