CON EDISON SETS NEW RECORDS FOR WEEKEND ENERGY USE

NEW YORK - Con Edison [NYSE: ED] announced today that this weekend shattered a record for weekend electricity sendout — the cumulative amount of electricity used by customers — of 462,575 Megawatt hours on Saturday and Sunday, August 13 and 14. This two-day sendout exceeds the amount of electricity consumed in Vermont in three months. The prior record of 416,765 Megawatt hours was set the weekend of August 17 and August 18, 2002.

The weekend record is the fourth this summer. July set a record for monthly electricity sendout, the cumulative amount of energy consumed by customers, of 6,395,843 Megawatt hours, surpassing the previous mark of 6,192,161 Megawatt hours in July 2002.

In addition, eight of the company's 10 highest days of peak electricity demand, the greatest amount of energy being used at a given moment, have been registered this summer. The Con Edison system delivers energy to approximately 9 million New York City and Westchester County residents.
