CON EDISON SALUTES NEW YORK CITY ENVIROTHON 2004 CHAMPIONS
NEW YORK – Consolidated Edison, Inc. (Con Edison) today joined a ceremony at the Department of Parks and Recreation Arsenal Gallery honoring the winners of the New York City Envirothon 2004. The New York City Soil and Water Conservation District hosted the event last month at the New York Botanical Garden in The Bronx.
This is the sixth year that Con Edison sponsored the competition, which tests New York City high school students on environmental fields, including aquatics, forestry, biodiversity and introduced species, soils/geology and wildlife.
"The Envirothon inspires students to bring their environmental knowledge and skills into their communities, where they engage in recycling programs, and work toward the restoration and protection of our environment," said Randolph S. Price, Con Edison's vice president of Environment, Health and Safety. "On behalf of Con Edison, I congratulate the Envirothon 2004 winners and wish them great success in the state competition."
Also in attendance at the award ceremony were, Eugenia Flatow, chair, New York City Soil and Water District; Dr. Donald G. Fulton, director, Children's Education, New York Botanical Garden; Adrian Benepe, commissioner, New York City Department of Parks and Recreation; Christopher O. Ward, commissioner, New York City Department of Environmental Protection; and Gail McMillan, director, public affairs for Bronx and Westchester, Con Edison.
The citywide champions -- Brooklyn Technical High School and Bronx High School of Science -- will compete in the State Envirothon on May 29 and 30.
