CON EDISON ENGINEER RECEIVES PRESTIGIOUS IEEE FELLOWSHIP

NEW YORK -- Consolidated Edison Company of New York, Inc. (Con Edison) announced that the renownedInstitute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc. (IEEE) has selected Dr. Mayer Sasson, a company project engineer, as a Life Fellow effective January 1, 2004.

Sasson is a principal advisor in Con Edison´s Energy Markets Policy Group. He is also part of a prestigious group of four other Con Edison professionals who have earned IEEE Fellow recognition.

"Dr. Sasson´s outstanding professionalism and expertise are a terrific asset to Con Edison," said Terry Agriss, vice president, of energy management at Con Edison. "Mayer was named an IEEE Fellow in 1994 for his work on power systems analysis and real-time monitoring. It follows that his full body of engineering work and competitive electric market knowledge would now be recognized by the IEEE."

The IEEE is a technical professional association of more than 380,000 individual members in 150 countries. The non-profit organization is a leading authority in technical areas ranging from electric power, computer engineering, biomedical technology and telecommunications, to aerospace and consumer electronics.

Fellows are chosen through a rigid nomination process based upon individual lifetime professional accomplishments. These areas may include proficiencies in engineering, science, technical leadership or engineering education. Nominees are also judged for their submissions as published authors of technical books, manuals, drawings or papers.

The IEEE produces 30 percent of the world´s published literature in electrical engineering, computers and control technology. Sasson has contributed to more than 80 electrical engineering articles for professional journals, one of which received the 1981 prize for best paper from IEEE´s Power Engineering Society.

Sasson began his education in electrical engineering while studying at the University of the Andes, Bogotá, Colombia. He completed his bachelor´s and master´s degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana, and earned a doctorate´s degree from Imperial College of Science and Technology in London. He also taught several executive courses for engineers in various countries.

Sasson lives in Manhattan where he enjoys art, classical music, playing the cello, jogging and producing art videos. He is married to accomplished abstract artist Fanny Sanin.
