NEW YORK – For the eighth consecutive year, Consolidated Edison Company of New York, Inc. (Con Edison) sponsored Green Horizons, a conference designed for middle-school students considering a career in environmental and natural resources.

This year's event was held today at the Queens Botanical Garden, where students from schools throughout New York City had access to hands-on lessons about a variety of environmental careers. Students had access to 20 stations devoted to areas such as soil science, urban forestry, atmospheric science, horticulture, landscape architecture, meteorology, fresh water ecology, and composting and urban recycling.

"Con Edison is a proud sponsor of Green Horizons," said Frances A. Resheske, Con Edison's senior vice president for public affairs. "This wonderful event gives students the opportunity to meet environmental professionals and join them in solving real-life situations encountered in natural resources and the environment. This is a great opportunity for any youngster considering an environmental career."

Green Horizons was also sponsored by New York ReLeaf, the Environmental Education Advisory Council and the Magnolia Tree Earth Center of Bedford-Stuyvesant, Inc.

Con Edison's environment, health and safety program affirms the company's responsibility to protect the environment. The company's environmental policy has been internationally recognized for going beyond compliance to achieve "environmental excellence." This commitment is exemplified by the company's endorsement of the principles of the Coalition for Environmentally Responsible Economies (CERES).
