For Immediate Release: August 15, 2003 — 6:00 p.m.

NEW YORK – As of 6 p.m. Con Edison has restored power to about 2.6 million customers, which represents nearly 85 percent of its service territory, comprising 3.1 million customers in New York City and Westchester County.

Power has been restored to all of Queens, Staten Island, and Westchester County, and to significant portions of Manhattan and Brooklyn. Con Edison continues to make restorations as more power generation becomes available.

We urge customers who have power to conserve energy and to refrain from using large appliances. Customers still without power should keep electric switches in the “off” position.
