CON EDISON NAMED ENERGY COMPANY OF THE YEAR
NEW YORK - Consolidated Edison Company of New York, Inc. (Con Edison) announced today that it has been named Energy Company of the Year at the Fourth Annual Global Energy Awards sponsored by Platts/Businessweek.
The utility, which serves 3.1 million electric customers in New York City and Westchester County, New York, was selected from among the nation’s leading firms during a November 18 ceremony at the Plaza Hotel.
Judging criteria for the award focused on overall excellence in safety, the delivery of energy, customer care, technological innovation and environmental concern.
“Recovering from September 11 was not our only challenge this year. Con Edison was also engaged in a half-billion dollar, system-wide improvement and reinforcement program to keep pace with increasing demand,” said Lou Rana, vice president of Manhattan operations, adding “Again, the 14,000 men and women of Con Edison successfully met the challenge while operating in the most dynamic and densely populated region in the United States.”
Last week, Con Edison also was named the Most Reliable Utility in North America by the international consulting firm, PA Consulting Group.
