NEW YORK -- Consolidated Edison Company of New York, Inc., is giving gas customers another opportunity to join the “Power Your Way” program to help them choose an energy service company (ESCO). A recent mailing to gas customers will help them shop for their ESCO.

The mailing includes an Energy Shopping List, a list of suggested questions for customers to ask ESCOs when shopping for energy; an ESCO Directory of authorized ESCOs; and a brochure entitled, Your New Energy Choices, which contains frequently asked questions about the “Power Your Way” program.

In addition to the mailing, gas customers will get a follow-up telephone call from “Power Your Way” representatives to further explain the program, answer customer questions, and connect gas customers with representatives from registered ESCOs.

Customers now have a choice - they can shop for an energy supplier that best suits their lifestyle and economic needs. ESCOs can offer different pricing packages, convenient payment options, even discounts on home security systems, shopping-club memberships, frequent flyer miles, and more.

Through the “Power Your Way” program, customers also can get better value for their energy dollar. Upon enrolling with an ESCO, the New York State sales tax on delivery of that energy drops by 50 percent. In September, it drops another 25 percent and in September 2003, this sales tax is eliminated.

Since deregulation and Con Edison's divestiture of power plants, the company is now focusing on the safe and reliable delivery of electricity and natural gas to New Yorkers' homes and businesses. The company will still respond to emergencies and service problems, but customers can choose their own energy supplier. Power Your Way is available to gas and electric, residential and small business customers in New York City and Westchester County. For more information or for a list of ESCOs, customers may call the toll-free automated Power Your Way information line at 1-800-780-2884 or visit
