CON EDISON RESTORES POWER TO 15,000 CUSTOMERS IN MANHATTAN
NEW YORK – Con Edison returned power to 15,000 customers in lower Manhattan at about 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
More than 200 Con Edison employees are working to restore power to the remaining 48,000 customers, who lost power after a fire in a transformer at Con Edison's 14th Street plant.
As of 7:30 p.m., customers between Spring Street and Barclay Street, and from Broadway to West Street and Battery Park City had their power restored.
There were no reported injuries from the 12:40 p.m. fire.
Con Edison thanks the Fire and Police Departments, Mayor Michael Bloomberg, and the New York City Office of Emergency Management for their assistance and continues to work closely with city officials.
Con Edison continues to ask customers to use energy wisely.
