2001 Holiday Lights Festival To Top Prior Years' Brilliant Displays

(Bronx, N.Y.) - Consolidated Edison Company of New York, Inc. (Con Edison) will kick off its annual Holiday Lights Festival at the Bronx Zoo, beginning at 5 p.m. on November 23. One of New York's most amazing holiday displays, the festival will feature miles of tree and architectural lighting, including more than 140 lighted animal sculptures, many of them animated.

One of the festival's favorite attractions, the "Holiday Express" train will take children for an unforgettable enchanted forest journey. Entertainment this year will include costumed stilt walkers, ice carving demonstrations, choral group performances and storytelling. Popular exhibit buildings, including the Monkey House, Children's Zoo and World of Reptiles, will remain open. Nighttime sea lion feedings, live reindeer and camels will add to a fun-filled evening.

"Con Edison is happy to sponsor this festival, which attracts thousands of visitors to the Bronx Zoo every season. It is just one way we can help celebrate the season with our customers, families and friends," said Robert W. Donohue, Con Edison senior vice president of electric operations.

Holiday Lights will be open to the public from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. beginning November 23 through December 12, Thursdays through Sundays; and from December 13 through January 1, all nights except Christmas Eve. In honor of September 11th's New York heroes, admission will be free on opening night, Friday, November 23.
