CON EDISON’S RECYCLING PROGRAM = MOVING 10,606 ELEPHANTS
Region’s largest utility celebrates America Recycles Day

New York - Hundreds of Queens school children will join Con Edison employees to celebrate America Recycles Day on Saturday, Nov. 17, at the company’s Learning Center in Long Island City.

The program is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It is sponsored by Con Edison’s division of Environment, Health and Safety.

The children will have the opportunity to create robots from scrap computer parts and cardboard.

Recycle a Bike, Per Scholas and Verizon will explain their unique programs for turning used and worn materials into usable materials.

“Con Edison is a regional leader in recycling. Our 14,000 employees are dedicated to environmental programs and they know recycling makes a difference for our 3.1 million customers in New York City and Westchester,” said Randolph S. Price, vice president for Environment, Health and Safety.

Balloon Designs by M & S will demonstrate “safe” balloons, which break down when they are discarded.

Ron “Mr. Magic” Heckler, a Con Edison materials specialist, will present a magic show.

Children will play games with a recycling theme, and have the chance to win prizes, including zoo memberships, theater tickets, a computer and a bicycle.

Con Edison recycles more than 10,606 tons of material a year - the weight of over 10,606 adult elephants.

Con Edison’s Learning Center is located at 43-82 Vernon Blvd., Long Island City, Queens.
