NewsCon Edison Media RelationsFor Immediate Release: September 16, 2001 CON EDISON URGES CUSTOMERS TO CONSERVE ENERGY DURING RESTORATION EFFORTSNew York - Con Edison has 1,900 employees working to restore power in lower Manhattan. In some cases, initial restoration will be temporary, until permanent system repairs can be made. All customers below Spring Street from river to river are urged to conserve power until permanent restoration of the power system is completed. Con Edison advises its customers NOT to attempt to hook up their own generator, but should call a licensed electrician. Temporary generators are providing power to some buildings. In some cases, the generator cannot handle the entire building load so building personnel have disconnected electrical service to some of their tenants. |
