Consolidated Edison, Inc. [NYSE:ED] issued the following statement in response to the lawsuit filed today by Northeast Utilities:

"We believe that the lawsuit filed today by Northeast Utilities is without merit. Con Edison has at all times been and remains in compliance with the terms of its Merger Agreement with Northeast Utilities. Last week Con Edison asked the federal district court in the Southern District of New York to find that Northeast has not met certain conditions precedent required to go forward with the merger between the companies."
