CON EDISON TO SPONSOR ‘AMERICA RECYCLES’ DAY
Con Edison will celebrate America Recycles Day on Saturday, November 11, at the Learning Center with magic, robots and hands-on recycling projects for children. The program is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Ron Heckler of the company’s Resource Recovery unit and Jose A. Martas of Environmental Health and Safety will delight children with their magic bag of tricks using recycled materials.
Children will create robots from recycled materials, learning how scrap material can be transformed into fun, and functional items.
One of the highlights of the day will be Adam Green, a Bronx environmentalist, creating tugboats from scrap wood pallets.
In cooperation with the New York City Department of Sanitation, Con Edison will offer recycling games. There also will be drawings for theater tickets and passes to the Bronx Zoo.
All children will take home souvenirs from their day of recycling.
America Recycles Day is sponsored by Con Edison’s Resource Recovery, Environmental Health and Safety and Central Field Services.
“This is a great way to combine support of an important issue with a pleasurable family outing,” said Heckler.
The Learning Center is located at 43-82 Vernon Blvd., Long Island City, Queens.
