Con Edison Hires News Veteran Chris Olert to Media Relations Team

(New York, NY) -- Con Edison Media Relations Director Michael Clendenin announced today that Chris Olert, Daybook Editor for the Associated Press with more than 27 years experience in print and broadcast news, has been named Assistant Director of Media Relations for the company.

Olert, who had been with the Associated Press since 1992, was responsible for writing and editing daily events for the New York metro region, helping coordinate coverage with regional bureaus nationwide and serving as a radio reporter for national, syndicated Associated Press reports from New York.

Prior to the Associated Press, Olert was a reporter for the New York Post, covering Mayor Edward I. Koch, the City Council, various city agencies and a wide range of issues including transportation, welfare reform and criminal justice.

He also worked for the Staten Island Advance, where he served as the paper’s City Hall Bureau Chief and as Assistant City Editor, supervising a staff of 50 reporters and photographers.

In addition, Olert was an anchorman-reporter for WBAL-TV in Baltimore, MD, which included providing local news reports for the “Today Show.” He has also worked freelance for Fox News and Channel 11 news.

“I am very pleased to have Chris on board Con Edison’s media relations team,” Clendenin said. “His depth and experience in the news business, as well as his highly regarded reputation with reporters and editors, will be a tremendous asset to our company.”

Olert is a former officer of the New York Press Club and a member of the Inner Circle, an organization of current and former City Hall reporters. He is a graduate of Loyola College and Columbia University, where he earned a master’s degree in journalism.

Olert lives with his wife, Sheila O’Mara, in Warwick, NY, where he is a member of the Warwick Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
