Katz Telephone: (212) 460-4111 For Immediate Release: April 28, 2000 CON EDISON’S YANKEE KIDS PROGRAM CELEBRATES 33 YEARS; CON EDISON NAMES YANKEE KIDS FOR 2000New York Yankee coach and former Con Edison Yankee Kid Willie Randolph will honor six lucky students to be named as Con Edison Yankee Kids 2000 at a special ceremony on Friday, April 28 at 5 p.m. in Yankee Stadium’s Great Moments Room. The Con Edison Yankee Kids Program is a 33-year-old company tradition. The six Yankee Kids, one from each borough and Westchester County, range in age from 8 to 16 years old. Yankee Kids are selected on the basis of academic proficiency, as well as having demonstrated strong leadership and sportsmanship skills. Each youth is nominated by a local civic organization. Prior to the Yankee game against the Toronto Blue Jays, the Con Edison Yankee Kids will participate in an on-field ceremony. Later this summer, the youths will be afforded an opportunity to attend a instructional baseball camp at a college campus in the New York metropolitan area. For more than three decades, the Con Edison Yankee Kids Program has provided more than 3 million community youths with free admission to Yankee Stadium to watch the World Champions in action.
