CON EDISON OFFERS DIRECT ELECTRONIC BILL PAYMENT PLAN

Consolidated Edison Company of New York, Inc. (Con Edison) customers now can pay their electric and gas bill automatically from their personal or business checking accounts, the company announced today.

The enrollment process is easy: customers just fill out the authorization form that is included with the June Con Edison bill, pay the current bill by check and mail it to the company along with the bill's payment stub and completed enrollment form. Con Edison will confirm the customer's enrollment by mail. Each month thereafter, about 10 calendar days after Con Edison renders its bill, the amount owed will be automatically deducted from the customer's checking account.

The new Direct Payment Plan complements the company's other paperless payment plans, including Pay-by-Phone and Internet payment, which can be accessed on the World Wide Web at https://www.coned.com/cus/main.htm.

Pay-by-Phone and Internet customers can switch to the new Direct Payment Plan. When requested, the company will mail them an enrollment form to complete and sign
