Who decides when to call a power-reduction event?
A power-reduction event is called and a specific demand-response program is activated by either the New York State Independent Operator or Con Edison. An event may be called to ensure reliability of the energy-delivery systems, or when the demand for power exceeds available supply.

What are some ways that customers can temporarily reduce their energy consumption?

What are some ways that customers can temporarily reduce their energy consumption?
Customers can reduce their energy consumption by turning off unnecessary lighting, appliances and equipment, raising the temperature of central air-conditioning systems, or using on-site generation that complies with state, city, and county regulations.
