Con Edison Scores 100 Percent in List of Best Places to Work for GLBT Equality
The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Foundation, the nation’s largest gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (GLBT) civil rights organization, listed 142 companies as “Best Places to Work for GLBT Equality.” Companies who score a perfect 100 percent on the foundation’s Corporate Equality Index, which measures policies and practices implemented to promote fairness and equality in the workplace for GLBT employees, are presented with a special seal.
Joan Jacobs, director of EEO Affairs at Con Edison, said, “We are committed to creating an environment that embraces the broad spectrum of diversity within our workforce. This recognition by the HRC is encouraging and makes us extremely proud.”
“This is our version of the ‘Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval,’ showing that these 142 companies have a philosophy of inclusion and are committed to fairness and equality for all Americans,” said HRC President Joe Solmonese. “ . . . This seal will act as a welcome mat for equality.”
“As an equal opportunity employer, Con Edison is deeply honored to be in the company of the best of the best when it comes to demonstrating that we stand behind our policies of inclusion,” said Vice President Claude Trahan.
More than 80 percent of Fortune 500 companies now have policies in place that prevent workplace discrimination based upon sexual orientation, and 24 percent include gender identity.
