paying by debit card questions and answers

Q: How do I pay by debit card?
A: You can pay online, or call us toll-free, 24 hours a day at 1-888-925-5016 and we will process your payment

Q: Can I pay by debit card anytime?
A: This convenient payment option is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Q: What debit cards does the payment agent accept?
A: The payment agent accepts debit cards that are embedded with a MasterCard logo, or encoded with one of the major banking networks, such as NYCE, STAR, or PULSE.

Q: To pay by debit card, what do I need?
A: Have your Con Edison bill and debit card information handy.

Q: Is there a fee for using this payment option?
A: Yes, the payment agent charges a service fee of $4.95 for payments up to $500 and an additional $4.95 for each $500 increment thereafter. If your bill is $500 or less, for example, you will pay a service fee of $4.95. If your bill is between $500 and $1000, you will pay a service fee of $9.90, and so on. Con Edison does not receive any portion of the service fee.

Q: Why will I be charged a fee to use my debit card?
A: The financial institutions charge the payment agent a fee to use their system to transfer funds. Most merchants embed this fee in the price of their product or service. Con Edison’s regulatory-approved rates, however, do not allow for us to include the fee in your energy bill. The payment agent accepting the debit card payment on our behalf, therefore, charges the fee. Con Edison does not receive any portion of this fee.

Q: When will payment be posted to my account?
A: You should allow two business days for payment to be posted to your account. To avoid a late payment charge, please make your payment at least two business days before the payment due date shown on your bill.

Q: Can I pay by debit card if I am a cash-only customer?
A: Yes, you may pay by debit card even if you're a cash-only customer.
